Somatic
yoga
Somatics is a field of study and practice in the overlapping realms of bodywork, movement, and psychotherapy. In somatic experiencing, I ask you to pay attention to and be guided by your internal experience. Soma means “body” in Greek. In somatic practice, you use mindfulness to bring awareness and understanding to where and how you store tension, trauma, and joy in your body by building awareness of your physical, mental, and emotional comfort zones.
This can be the first step toward releasing old memories and patterns, balancing your body and mind, getting in touch with gut feelings and intuition, and ultimately moving toward a felt sense of being empowered and whole. Somatic-based yoga, which emphasizes your internal experience, is a more mindful, contemplative practice that challenges our mind, body and spirit.

your instructor
Vanessa has fostered a personal yoga and mindfulness practice for over 14 years. In 2010, during a health crisis that was later attributed to corporate burnout and emotional stress, her Naturopathic doctor declared “There is nothing medically wrong with you; You need to learn how to meditate.” That week, Vanessa attended her first meditation class, and her entire life began to shift.
Since that awakening, Vanessa has taught Buddhist meditation classes and discovered yoga in its pure form as a spiritual mind-body practice. In 2021 her passion for yoga and previous experience as a fitness instructor and personal trainer culminated in the pursuit of her 200-hour yoga instructor certification through an ashram in India.
Yoga means “union.” Traditional yoga is a lifestyle of the mind, body and spirit. The postures or asanas have been used for millennia as prescribed movement in Ayurvedic medicine to heal and enhance well-being. As a registered psychotherapist qualifying, Vanessa is delighted to integrate the practices of yoga and psychotherapy, mindfulness and movement. She invites you into her private studio for a profound journey into your own healing space.
